2/2025 - Upcoming Historic West Cleveland Design Review Advisory Committee (HWC DRAC) Review; Upcoming Landmarks Review

The project is on the agenda for the HWC DRAC on Wednesday, 1/19/25 at 6:00pm. Written comment to the HWC DRAC must be received by 6:00pm on Monday 1/17/25. The public may also observe the HWC DRAC meeting via this link: https://cityclevelandoh.webex.com/cityclevelandoh/j.php?MTID=maea67cbedc3e5c5907dc0d9f1f0e6811

If the HWC DRAC approves the design and site plan, the project could be heard by Cleveland City Landmarks Commission as early as 2/27/25. Landmarks agendas and information about how to make public comment can be found at: https://planning.clevelandohio.gov/landmark/agenda.php

1/2025 - Community meeting #3 with Bridging the Gap; upcoming Landmarks Review

Prior to returning to the City of Cleveland Landmarks Commission, Bridging the Gap LLC hosted a community meeting on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Calvary Reformed Church (1918 W 65th St).

10/24 - Updated proposed design; Landmarks review

In October 2024, developer Bridging the Gap LLC requested Landmarks Commission review of proposed design changes. Click here for a link to the 10/24/24 Landmarks Commission recording. The project received schematic/concept review and no vote was taken.

5/7/24 - Community meeting #2 with Bridging the Gap; Landmarks review

The project was conceptually reviewed by the City of Cleveland Landmarks Commission on 4/25/24. Those signed up for email notifications for this project will receive notice of upcoming Landmarks Commission dates. Councilmember Spencer requested that the project return for a 2nd conceptual review before proceeding to final review. Landmarks agendas and instructions for participation are posted here.

9/14/23 - City of Cleveland selects developer

2/1/23 - Request for Proposals (RFP) Released

The City of Cleveland released its Request for Proposals for the Watterson-Lake site on February 1, 2023. The press release can be viewed here and the full RFP can be viewed at https://www.clevelandohio.gov/node/168916.

Site Demolition

Cleveland Metropolitan School District will issue an update regarding the demolition of the Watterson-Lake building. The community can check for updates at www.clevelandmetroschools.org/Segment8.  

Community Process: 2021 & 2022

Community members participated in numerous engagement activities in November & December 2021, including two on-site pop-ups, two community workshops (in-person & virtual), as well as an online Community Values Survey and an opportunity to submit general feedback via this website. In August 2022, the City of Cleveland Department of Community Development released a draft Request for Proposals (RFP) for which the community’s feedback was sought on the draft Scoring Criteria. A community meeting on the draft RFP was held on August 17, 2022.
